OUR ADVANCED PRACTICE PROVIDER

Advanced Practice Providers - Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) -  are rapidly becoming a health partner of choice for millions of Americans. Bringing a comprehensive perspective to health care, Advanced Practice Providers are clinicians who blend clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating health conditions combined with an emphasis on disease prevention and health management.

At MAVI, there may be some appointments where patients are scheduled with an Advanced Practic Provider. For instance, new vein patients have an initial, very thorough evaluation with an advanced Practice Provider so that all appropriate diagnostic testing can be ordered and the results can be reviewed by the physician prior to the next appointment that will be scheduled with the doctor. This approach is most efficient for both the health care team and the patient, but most importantly, it helps ensure that when patients are being seen in the office or hospital by one of our physicians, that is where they can devote their time and attention.

Advanced Practice Providers have completed a master's or doctoral degree program, as well as advanced clinical training beyond their initial professional registered nurse preparation. Didactic and clinical courses prepare nurses with specialized knowledge and clinical competency to practice in a variety of health care settings. Advanced Practice Providers undergo rigorous national certification, periodic peer review, clinical outcome evaluations, and adhere to a code for ethical practices. They also participate in continued learning and professional development to ensure they maintain and expand their clinical competency.

What sets Advanced Practice Providers apart from other health care providers is their unique emphasis on the health and well-being of the whole person. With a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and health education and counseling, Advanced Practice Providers support patients in making better health and lifestyle choices, which in turn can lower patients' out-of-pocket costs.

With nearly 916 million visits made to Advanced Practice Providers each year, patients report an extremely high level of satisfaction with the care they receive.
